Extractions: It's a question no one is asking more than Big Mama himself. Despite taking 28 shots (19 shots on goal) so far this season 37 percent of the team's total of 75 Diallo has only one goal and an assist. The 6-foot-4 striker made a big impression on the league in 2000, his first MLS season, recording 26 goals and four assists for the Tampa Bay Mutiny, becoming the first player in league history to average more than two points per game (2.10). With several game suspensions last season, Diallo scored nine goals and five assists in 22 games. His recent scoring history is the major reason why Revolution GM Todd Smith and coach Fernando Clavijo selected Diallo second overall in the MLS Dispersal Draft held earlier this year, after Miami and Tampa Bay were disbanded. Diallo's fitness has been in question of late, as a month ago he said he needed a couple of games under his belt to get back into shape. Yesterday he came out of the game in the 70th minute, replaced by Wolde Harris, after taking nine shots.

BY ROBERT LEE Journal Sports Writer FOXBORO The New England Revolution were looking to get back on track against Eastern Conference rivals New York/New Jersey yesterday in their first game of a crucial four-game homestand. A win would have boosted the morale of the last-place Revolution, especially against the MetroStars, who entered yesterday's game tied for second place in the Eastern Division with the Chicago Fire, who were just one point behind first-place Columbus (5-5-3, 18 points). But the MetroStars (6-6-2) proved to be too tough, winning their sixth game in their last seven tries as they shut out the Revolution's high-powered offense in a 2-0 win at CMGi Field in front of a crowd of 16,968. The loss drops the Revs' record to 4-9-1. It was New England's fifth loss in their last six games. "I think we were in position to win the game," New England interim head coach Steve Nicol said. "When you get into the final 30 [minutes], you're looking for your players to produce something by themselves every chance they get, but we didn't do that."

He scored 53 goals and had 28 assists in his time as Duke's top forward. In the 2000 season, his senior year, Curtis was named by the Missouri Athletic Club as college soccer's Player of the Year. Several publications listed Curtis as a "can't miss" prospect. The Mutiny, desperate for a forward to play next to Mamadou Diallo, selected Curtis with the second overall pick in Major League Soccer's SuperDraft. Armed with the confidence of being a top pick and one of college soccer's best players, Curtis, 22 and originally from Milan, Mich., figured the transition would be easy. No player likes to sit the bench," Diallo told the The Tampa Tribune . "I told Raul I knew his situation and I knew he was uncomfortable. I have respect for everyone as a player." Extractions: METROSTARS 5, LOS ANGELES GALAXY Diallo 4 Goals, Williams 3 Assists EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ Mamadou Diallo once again left his mark on the Los Angeles Galaxy, netting four goals in a 5-0 MetroStars victory at Giants Stadium Saturday afternoon to send the Galaxy to the worst defeat in team history. Diallo captured his fourth hat trick and tenth multigoal game of his three-year MLS regular-season career including a four-goal outing on May 9, 2001 in a 4-4 tie with the Galaxy. The Diallo- Andy Williams combination struck first in the 27th minute when Diallo scored from the edge of the box. The play started when midfielder Brad Davis fed Williams with a through ball from midfield. Davis sent a long ball to the edge of the box, where Diallo took a low, half-volley shot low to the left of goalkeeper Kevin Hartman. Diallo made it 2-0 in the 36th minute from almost the exact same spot at the edge of the penalty area. Williams sent another long ball Diallo's way only to have Galaxy defender Alexi Lalas take the ball from Diallo's feet. Diallo immediately dispossessed Lalas and sent home another shot low and to Hartman's left for his third goal as a Metro. Completing his fourth hat trick of his career, Diallo found the back of the net again in the 58th minute on a crossing pass from Williams. The play started on the right side of the field on a pass from midfielder Craig Ziadie to Williams, who sprinted into the penalty area. Williams sent a sly ball across the six-yard box where Diallo one-timed his finish, beating Hartman to the center of the net after Hartman attempted to cover the nearpost.

He ranked second on the team in goals scored behind Rodrigo Faria (12), and was voted Honda MetroStars MVP in voting by media who regularly cover the team. Mamadou was a terrific player for us this year, and he helped provide us with some tremendous offensive power, said MetroStars President/General Manager Nick Sakiewicz. But this was a deal that was certainly good for Mamadou as well as good for the MetroStars, as it will free up a senior international slot on our roster as well as provide us with a lot more salary cap maneuverability as we begin to rebuild our team into the MLS Cup contender we know we should be.

Extractions: NEW YORK (Monday, July 22, 2002) - MetroStars forward Mamadou Diallo has been selected as Major League Soccers Player of the Week for the week ending July 21, 2002. Diallo buried two goals, including the eventual game winner, in a 4-3 victory against the New England Revolution on Saturday at Giants Stadium. This is the second time Diallo has received this honor this year, giving the Senegalese striker five such distinctions during his three-year stint in MLS. Diallo last earned player of the week accolades during the 13th week of this season, when he netted four goals, including a natural hat trick, to lead the MetroStars to a 5-0 romp over the Los Angeles Galaxy on June 15. Diallo now has nine goals in seven games with the MetroStars since he was arrived from the Revolution as part of a six-player deal, the biggest trade in MLS history, on May 24. "I am having lots of fun playing with the MetroStars, said Diallo. My situation did not begin well this season, but in the past few weeks in New York, it has gotten so much better for me. I look forward to continuing to work hard and I will do my best to give our fans the MLS Championship they deserve." In the game's 34th minute, Diallo gave the MetroStars a 2-0 lead when he converted a penalty kick after being fouled hard inside the penalty area by the Revolutions Daniel Hernandez. After New England had cut the lead to 3-1 with a goal just before halftime, Diallo restored the three-goal advantage in the 46th minute when he received a pass from teammate Andy Williams and buried a shot in the left corner of the net from 22 yards out.

Extractions: Mamadou Diallo is MLS Player of the Week New York, NY (Monday, May 14, 2001) - Tampa Bay Mutiny forward Mamadou Diallo has been selected by PSRA as MLS' Player of the Week for the week ending May 13, 2001. The 2000 Budweiser Scoring champion recorded all four Mutiny goals in a 4-4 tie versus the red-hot Los Angeles Galaxy last Wednesday and the lone Tampa Bay goal in a 2-1 loss at Colorado on Saturday. Diallo's goal scoring outburst marks the fifth time in MLS history that a player has notched more than three goals in a single game. Diallo, who is second in MLS' scoring race (6g, 2a, 14 points), set several Mutiny scoring records with his four-goal performance vs. the Galaxy including most goals in a game, most career hat tricks (three), fastest hat trick (37 minutes) and fastest consecutive goals in Mutiny history (1:16). Diallo's hat trick marked the first time an individual player had scored three goals against the Los Angeles Galaxy defense. After scoring in the 15th, 16th and 37th minutes, the 29-year-old Senegalese native put Tampa Bay in position to win the game with his 78th minute tally. A Galaxy flurry, however, produced the game-tying score in stoppage time, before the teams played to a scoreless overtime. The 6-foot-3-inch striker netted Tampa Bay's lone goal in Saturday's tough 2-1 loss at Colorado. Diallo was hauled down in the box by Rapids' defender Chris Martinez after he received a pass from Steve Ralston and attempted to turn on goal. Diallo hammered the resulting penalty kick past Colorado 'keeper Adin Brown.
