Extractions: Seattle Times theater critic E-mail this article Print this article Search web archive Are oldies by Tom Jones and The Carpenters, and tunes by the Swiss synth-pop group Yello, music to skate by? Yes indeedy, in the touring Stars on Ice revue that just visited KeyArena. Packed with top figure skaters (including four Olympic gold medalists), this year's ice spectacle featured an ensemble tango motif, a lot of soloing to gooey pop ballads, a Carpenters finale, and some charming novelties with skaters "partnering" vanity tables, lighted arches and high-beam flashlights. As usual, the whole shebang was gilded with splashy lighting (by Roy Bennett), spangly costumes (by Jef Billings), and the charisma and athletic prowess of skating superstars. In the absence of beloved Olympic champ Scott Hamilton (who retired from performing last year but is the show's co-producer), popular Canadian blade whiz Kurt Browning had a larger role in the program. The Kurt Files - Kurt Browning Interview By Steven Cousins steven cousins' Interview with Kurt Browning. steven So Kurt, here we go again withour interview Stones season when three guys went skating up the ice to the http://www.kurtfiles.com/forfun/stevekurt2.php
Extractions: with Kurt Browning STEVEN: So Kurt, here we go again with our interview. We did one last year and now it is a brand new year. How do you like the show this year and what are your favorite parts of the show? KURT: I remember last year's interview because we did it on the airplane and you were having trouble writing! This year the show is so different in so many ways. The obvious change is not having Scott around and as much as we miss him on the ice, I know we notice his absence even more in the dressing room. He was always good for a laugh! If last year's show was mostly about our hairless leader (Scott), then this year it is about the women. The center of the show is our three lady Olympic Champions; Yama, Tara and Kat. It is a great opportunity for people to see three generations of Olympic Champions together. Sometimes I feel sorry for Ilia who is an Olympic Champion himself, but does not get the same attention just because he is a guy. One of my favorite parts of the show is a very short part and it involves you, Steve. In the Top Of The World segment in the finale, Ilia goes out first in the music followed up by you and Denis. There is something so powerful about the entrance and the music. I just love it. It reminds me of one of my favorite shows ever - the Rolling Stones season - when three guys went skating up the ice to the heavy rock sound of the Stones. I sometimes think the funniest part of the show takes place inside the tunnel.

Cleveland Skating Club Show 1995 steven cousins was fun to watch; he skated a heavy metal we know how dirty the floorsare in ice rinks, right number just doesn't have much skating content and http://members.tripod.com/~tseinyev/reviews/95CSC-review.html
Extractions: These are my own opinions and observations. I may not always be 100% accurate and my ideas are certainly open to debate and criticism. I prefer the Russian style of skating and may not be as enchanted with the "popular favorites" in North America. I hope that these reports are enjoyable to most readers, but I do not apologise for stating my own feelings. May 20, 1995 Tim Goebel is 14 and apparently studies the martial arts. He has good overall skills, including surprisingly sharp footwork, but I guess we will have to see how he fares in the triple axel department. For his second number he skated to that really irritating techno hoedown song (if you know what I mean, then you know what I mean), and did some verrry tentative toepick hopping a la Elvis. Amy Webster and Ron Kravette skated their "Phantom of the Opera" free dance (have I mentioned yet that I love the metronome beat in the background? reminds me of the disco renditions of the "Star Wars" theme and Beethoven's 5th) and their quickstep. Very polished and attractive to watch (if not terribly difficult). Didn't Ron Kravette start skating as an adult, or am I thinking of someone else? ( NB: I was thinking of someone else!

Hot Summer Ice: A Day At The Beach Hot Summer ice A Day at the Beach. I had the time of my life at the skating Showon Barbara Underhill and Paul Martini, Elvis Stojko, steven cousins, Lilly Lee http://www.catslair.com/skating/1995/HotSummerIce/review.html
Extractions: Well, I had the time of my life at the Skating Show on the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Not just because the show itself was a blast, but before the show I saw the entire cast on the Boardwalk filming an intro for the show. I watched them film, and play on the beach, and got some fabulous pictures and autographs. It was just an incredibly exciting day. The cast of the show was Nancy Kerrigan, Oksana Baiul, Victor Potrenko, Nicole Bobek, Todd Eldredge, Michelle Kwan, Tara Lipinski, Barbara Underhill and Paul Martini, Elvis Stojko, Steven Cousins, Lilly Lee, Phillipe Candellero, Shae Lynn Bourne and Victor Kraatz, Gary Beacom and Gia Guddat, with Scott Hamilton acting as M.C. (During the show every time Scott came out to announce someone (I and other audience members) shouted "Skate Scott, skate." On the Boardwalk I chatted with Michelle Kwan's mother. My husband and I told her how much we enjoy both her daughter's skating. I said that I just loved the Peter Pan number that Michelle did in the Campbell's tour. She said that Michelle had gotten a chance to ride some rides on the Boardwalk and that they had teased Michelle about this being her vacation. Michelle didn't think it was much of a vacation, since she had been working all day. Oh, and Michelle loves cotton candy I got Michelle and Tara's autograph. They are both sweet little girls, just like they look. Tara was actually surprised that I wanted her autograph, nice to see she isn't jaded. I got Elvis' autograph and Victor Kraatz'. He was surprised that1 recognized him. I told Victor that I loved his and Shae Lynn's skating and he was very sweet. He told me that he was very proud of their new routine and he hoped I would like it (I did).

My Stars On Ice Review! the first person to come out was steven cousins, who did warmup as they skated aroundand around on the ice. Ilia was given a special intro, skating to Jumpin http://www.angelfire.com/ca2/SweetiePiesParadise/SOI.html
Extractions: My Stars On Ice Review! I attended the Stars On Ice show in Sacramento, CA for the first time on January 9th, 1999. I was lucky enough to get on-ice seats (Thank you ARCO Arena!) after our original seats gave us an obstructed view of the ice. Needless to say, that just made me all the more excited and I think I really annoyed the people sitting next to me because I wouldn't shut up :) Anyways, the first person to come out was Steven Cousins, who did a little routine thing with a hat while the announcer told us all the usual annoucements about no flash photography (people did it anyways) and no throwing flowers. It was pretty cute and a very original way to get us to listen to the announcer. They did a great program and got a big applause from the audience. I myself clapped wildly and cheered for them for my friend April :) The audience always seems to love the lifts and spins they did and every one of them got applause. Overall, a very nice program. Katia Gordeeva came out next, skating to "Fragile" by Jesse Cook and Holly Cole. I am amazed at how little she is! She did a very nice job, with just a slight bobble on a jump at the end of the program. Got a huge round of applause. Scotty came out next, with wild appause from the audience. Love the outfit! He is such a comic and the audience just loved him. He skated to "One Week" by Barenaked Ladies. He did a wonderful, perfect program, with no mistakes, as far as I could tell. Got a wonderful applause from the audience but, strangely, no standing ovation.
New Page 1 First out was Todd Eldredge skating to his 1492 program. They are so smooth out onthe ice. steven cousins then did his former SOI program It's About That Walk http://www.ontheice.org/reviews/01_02/SaluteGoldCat.shtml
Extractions: Midori Ito's first number was flamenco flavored to Gloria Estefan's Steal Your Heart. It was definitely a different look for her. She wore an outfit that looked like a black skirt with a copper colored top. She landed a triple toe double toe combo and a double axel. This was the first time I've seen Midori live and she still has that charming smile!
