Excerpt: Oleksiy Volodymyrovych "Alexei" Ponikarovsky (Ukrainian: ; born April 9, 1980) is a Ukrainian Canadian professional ice hockey player currently playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL). Ponikarovsky played for Dynamo 2 and Dynamo Jr., farm teams during 199599 campaigns, seeing a little action with the main club during the 199899 season and finally becoming a fixture on the team during the 199900 season when Dynamo won the Russian Superleague Championship. In 199798, Ponikarovsky played 24 games for Dynamo Moscow in the First Division of the Russian Hockey League collecting three points with 30 penalty minutes. He then played 13 games for Krylya Sovetov of the Russian Elite League in 199899 and played three playoff games for Moscow Dynamo. In 199900, Ponikarovsky played 19 games for Dynamo Moscow of the Russian Elite League and played 29 games for THK Tver in the First Division of the Russian Hockey League collecting 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists) with 26 penalty minutes. In the 200506 NHL season, Ponikarovsky put up career highs in goals, assists. points, and penalty minutes. He saw added responsibility and was given more ice-time, often with former Dynamo Moscow teammate Nik Antropov or Mats Sundin, and became one of the team's regular penalty-killers. Ponikarovsky finished the season with four shorthanded goals and 1 assist. His four shorthanded goals tied ten players, including teammate Matt Stajan, for eighth in the league. Excerpt: Andy Hedlund (born May 16, 1978, in Osseo, Minnesota) is a professional ice hockey player for Adler Mannheim. He has also played for the Trenton Titans, Binghamton Senators, Hershey Bears, Krefeld Penguins, and DEG Metro Stars in his career. Hedlund began his career playing for the Fargo-Moorhead Ice Sharks of the United States Hockey League before moving onto Minnesota State University, Mankato, for college. Playing in three years for Minnesota StateMankato, he totaled 15 goals and 18 assists in 111 games. Following college he was signed by the Ottawa Senators and was assigned to the Trenton Titans. He played in 15 games for the Titans for parts of two seasons, recording one goal and an assist before being called up to the Binghamton Senators. Hedlund played three seasons in Binghamton, recording seven goals and 39 assists in 214 games. After going unsigned by an NHL team, Hedlund signed with the Krefeld Penguins of Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) in Germany. He spent one season with the Penguins, playing in 52 games and scoring a career-high 12 goals and 22 assists. He is currently an unrestricted free agent. ECHL Tibbetts started his career in the ECHL with the Birmingham Bulls , playing two games with the team as a 19 year old rookie during the 1994-95 season. The following season, he would sign with the Johnstown Chiefs. Tibbetts finished the season with 37 goals, 31 assists, and 68 points, ranking third on the team behind established ECHL veterans Don Parsons and Trevor Jobe . His 300 PIMs was the second highest on the team that season, finishing only behind Jason Courtenmache's 363 PIMs. Because of a ruling which involved the violation of his probation, this would be Tibbetts' last season of professional hockey until the year 2000. Rape and prison In 1994 Tibbetts plead guilty to raping a 15 year old girl in 1992, when he was 17 years old. His sentence was suspended for 42 months. However, in 1995, while on probation for the rape case, Tibbetts was convicted of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (a BB gun), disorderly conduct and witness intimidation . As a result, Tibbets served 39 months in prison; the sentence on the assault and battery charges was 30 months, but it would be served concurrently with the previously suspended sentence for rape.
