Extractions: Ross F. Dettman/Chicago Wolves A veteran of 18 seasons, Young has been with the Wolves since their start and has been a player on six championship teams in four different hockey leagues. Wendell Young has been a professional goaltender since 1983, and has a penchant for winning championships. In his junior hockey days in the Ontario Hockey League, Young won the Memorial Cup. During the 1987-88 season, Wendell led the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League to the Calder Cup. That season, he was also named the leagues top goaltender as well as the playoff MVP. A few seasons later, Young won what all hockey players dream ofthe Stanley Cup. As a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins, he won back-to-back championships in 1991 and 1992. And in 1998 and 2000, Young won the Turner Cup as a member of the Chicago Wolves. He is the only goaltender to win a championship in the OHL, AHL, IHL and NHL. Young has played a staggering 284 games for the Wolves in the past six years. He is also one of two players to be with the Wolves since their inception in 1994. Now in his 18 th season of pro hockey, he still shows great poise, having started the majority of games this season. He posted three shutouts this year, and was named IHL Goaltender of the Week for two weeks in March.

Former Ms. Hockey For Minnesota Looks For Gold In Utah usolympicteam.com February 11, 2002 Theres that certain confidence in Krissy Wendells (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) manner when she talks about playing hockey that tells she knows her way around on ice skates. Why not? She once won the Ms. Hockey for Minnesota award when in high school in a state where ice hockey is a way of life. Youre born on ice skates there, Wendell explains. Wendell is one of six newcomers to the Olympic squad. Thats the hockey heritage Wendell brings as one of six newcomers to the United States Olympic Womens Hockey team. The U.S. Olympic Womens team isnt just another team. Its the defending gold medal champion in a sport that made its Olympic debut just four years ago in Nagano, Japan. With 14 veterans from the 1998 Winter Olympics on this years roster, the newcomers have quite a task in filling the missing pieces from four years ago. Sure, talented veterans such as Cammie Granato (Plainfield, Ill.), Karyn Bye (Hudson, Wis.), Sarah Tueting (Winnetka, Ill.), Tricia Dunn (Derry, N.H.), Sara DeCosta (Warwick, R.I.) and many others have made Team USA the favorites to win again. But the play of six newcomers can prove major in spirited Olympic competition where anything can happen.

One Year After Salt Lake: 2002 Women's Olympic Team by Ted Starkey USAHockey.com Before the Olympics, the 2002 Womens Hockey Team spent five months together touring China and North America in preparation for the Salt Lake Games. The tour was successful, as the team won 31 straight games on their pre-Olympic tour. They then won their first four games of the Olympics until they fell by one goal to Canada in the gold medal game. The tour involved thousands of miles and lots of time on the ice, but after the games ended, the team scattered across the country to take some much-deserved rest and for some time with their families. Several of the younger members of the Olympic team returned to college for this fall, while the youngest player on the team returned home to finish high school. Five members of the U.S. team are in the top six in scoring in Women's Division I play, while another leads her squad in scoring.

Extractions: April 9, 2001 Street Pride Shelia Bocchine /Chronicle With the warm weather now here, Chicagoans, as of late, have been taking to the streets to celebrate their culture and heritage in a number of ways. Above, a resident of Greektown cheerfully observes the annual Hellenic Heritage Parade in late March. Hollis Sigler, 53, a veteran of Columbias Art and Design department, died Wednesday, March 28, after losing a courageous battle with breast cancer. Sigler, who taught several of the painting and drawing classes through the department, had been a faculty member since 1978, serving as full time faculty since the early 1980s. Continued As a person of Palestinian descent, I am personally offended by the Photo Poll that ran in the March 26th edition of the Columbia Chronicle. When asked where the last place senior Marketing student Andrea Lock would go for Spring Break, she replied The Middle East, because Id get shot for not covering up. I found this comment to be ignorant, and damaging to myself, and others of Middle Eastern and Muslim background. Continued So its three in the morning again and your roommates are sleeping so you cant make much noise and if you watch any more television you might as well slip into a coma but you cant sleep. Weve all been there. Some people are naturally attracted to the subdued glow of almost morning, not quite nighttime, but for those of you who dont really have a list of where to be when you just cant sleep, this is for you.

Extractions: By Brett Angel Minnesota Daily MINNEAPOLIS (U-WIRE) Krissy Wendell and Natalie Darwitz first met at hockey camp when they were barely teenagers. Until then, they had only heard of each other as the other girl who played hockey on the boys team, but they would hear (and see) a lot more of each other over the next seven years. Wendell, now 21, and Darwitz, 19, are part of a nationally-renowned freshman class that is hoping to bring a national championship to the Minnesota women's hockey program. But even as rookies among such a talented peer group, Wendell and Darwitz are a cut above. Both played high school hockey in the Twin Cities area Wendell at Park Center in Brooklyn Park, and Darwitz at Eagan. As a senior, Wendell led her team to a state championship in 2000, averaging a ridiculous 4.21 goals per game in 27 contests. Darwitz played with the Eagan High School team as a seventh grader, then left after her sophomore year and became the youngest player (15) ever to join the U.S. National Team. She missed her final two years of high school, but graduated by completing her coursework via the Internet.
