Whitney's soft hands helped him score 185 points in his last year of junior and post career-highs in goals and points last season. Of course, playing with Bure didn't hurt. The only thing that could prevent Whitney from setting new highs again is his contract status. He's headed for arbitration and is asking for over $3 million per season. If he gets it, the Panthers may choose to deal him to reduce their payroll. Career Stats Year Team GP G A Pts PIM S S% PPG

Extractions: "Ray Whitney, The Wizard!" Jeff Rimer, Florida Panthers TV Play-by-play commentator Ray Whitney was the man who scored the biggest goal in Sharks history: the unforgettable game 7 double overtime goal in Calgary that sealed the Sharks' second ever playoff series win. Ray, a native of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta (a suburb of Edmonton) took great pride in scoring that goal against Edmonton's biggest rivals. This was not Ray's first taste of gloryas a young boy, he got to drink champagne out of the Stanley Cup itself, as he served as a stickboy for the Edmonton Oilers during their reign in the 80's. Drafted in the 2nd round (23rd overall) by San Jose in 1991, he played six seasons with the Sharks and began the 1997-1998 season with his hometown Edmonton Oilers before being acquired by the Florida Panthers in November 1997. While still in San Jose, he was the only Shark remaining who had played in all 25 playoff games in Sharks history. He led the Sharks in shooting percentage in '94-'95 and was 3rd in all-time scoring (120 points). He was also the active leader in games played (200) and held the record for the earliest goal ever scored for the Sharks (the record was broken recently by Andrei Nazarov), when he scored at :16 of the first period against the Chicago Blackhawks (he later added another goal that night to secure the Sharks' 2-1 win). Ray is one of the most exciting players on the ice today. But more than that, he has an irrepressible fighting spirit that sets him apart from the crowd. Throughout his career, he has fought for every break he has gotten, and has succeeded against the odds. That is why he is my favorite player, and this site is my tribute to him...

Saskatchewan, AB, CAN An NHL veteran, the well-respected Whitney was named an alternate captain for the Columbus Blue Jackets in the franchise's second year. He lit a bright path for the younger players to follow, leading the team in goals (21) and assists (40). Whitney joined Columbus, via Florida, for Kevyn Adams and a draft pick. His penchant for scoring was also on display with the Panthers in 1998-99, when he led the squad with 26 goals and 38 assists and never went more than four games without a point. In 1999-00, Whitney topped those numbers, piling up 29 goals and 42 assists. The Panthers claimed Whitney off waivers in 1997. He scored his first NHL goal Dec. 1, 1992 against Edmonton and had an assist in his first game, April 15, 1992 against Calgary. Whitney was drafted 23rd in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft by San Jose. Extractions: Unfortunately, the bliss was short-lived, as one by one, the core players of that team began moving on to different cities. Tried as I might to keep being a loyal fan, I saw my allegiance tested when Arturs Irbe went to the Dallas Stars in '96-'97, and the very last straw was when the Sharks released Ray Whitney from the team in the summer of 1997. The Sharks will always hold fond memories for me, but I'm moooovin' on and will follow those players from '93-'94 to their new teams!! :-) My favorite NHL teams: The Florida Panthers , where Ray Whitney is now playing, the Carolina Hurricanes , where Arturs Irbe is now, and the Pittsburgh Penguins , where my favorite coach, Kevin Constantine, is coaching :-). Arturs "The Wall" Irbe (G) : born 2/2/67 in Riga, Latvia; played for Soviet National Team and Dynamo Riga; drafted in 10th round (196th overall) by the Minnesota North Stars in 1989; acquired by San Jose in 1991 Dispersal Draft; played with the IHL's Kansas City Blades from 1991 to 1993 and won a Turner Cup in 1992; formerly with San Jose (Team MVP and Western Conference All-Star in 1994), played with the Dallas Stars 96-97, played with the Vancouver Canucks 97-98, now with the Carolina Hurricanes

Extractions: Here's some info about the webmaster... Hi, I'm a 24 year old self-proclaimed "hockey chick" from Northern California! I was born in Manila, Philippines, but grew up all over the place, as my family and I moved around a lot when I was younger. We lived in the Philippines, Denmark, and Germany before moving to San Francisco Bay Area in 1985. I graduated from Santa Clara University (woohoo, go Broncos!) in 1997, and now work full time in market research, but that's my day job... In my spare time I like to design webpages and write songs and sing! I got interested in the net in February of 1996 when my best friend (whom Hockey Chat regs know as Mermaid) introduced me to HC. From there it snowballed, and I designed my first page in August 1996 after some great people taught me HTML (thanks, you guys!). That original site has since gone away (and now reappears as this lone page), but it spawned two hockey related sites for my favorite players, Ray Whitney and Arturs Irbe Besides my love of hockey and the internet, I am also a big music nut!!! In fact, my dream is to be a professional singer/songwriter. Music's been my first love ever since I was little, and I've been writing and recording my own music since I was 16. This year I realized part of my dream when I started my music production company, called Tiwala Music. Hopefully y'all will be able to buy my CD's someday :-) So what exactly does "araw" (pronounced AH-rou: "ou" like in "out") mean, you ask? "Araw" means "sun" in Tagalog (the language of the Philippines). Since I'm such a huge
