"Some times you've got to get the attention of your stick, so I told Gards to put his stick in the (toilet)," says Chorske. Gardiner went out and scored four goals in three games. So now he sticks his stick in the toilet every game.

Teams that made out like bandits are Tampa Bay, who got a world class goaltender for basically nothing, and San Jose, who also got a top notch goaltender for nothing. This preexpansion juggling has become a tradition in the NHL, just like preplayoff clowning, post-allstar break unicycle riding, and of course mid-season elephant training. It is a pity that post playoff acrobatics (see Bobby Orr) never "took off" (Ed. note, yes it is a miserable pun, but it was worth it) Of course the news we're all waiting for here is the commentary on the new Nashville Predators. Well, Nashville here you go, meet your new team: (Original team and comments included, all players rated on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is Tony Twist, and 10 is Peter Forsberg. Just as an advance, hint, there are no 10's here).

Extractions: Tony Twist, repeatedly referred to in many hockey publications as "the toughest guy in hockey" comes by his reputation naturally. Genetically, you might say. His grandfather, Harry once held the welterweight title of Western Canada, and later trained young fighters. Like grandpa Harry, Tony's dad, Stan, served with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in B.C. Tony was drafted as the St. Louis Blues 9th choice in the 1988 entry draft. He played in St. Louis and with their farm team in Peoria, IL until being traded to the Quebec Nordiques in 1991. Tony played with Quebec until he was reacquired by the Blues as a free agent in August of 1994. Sports Illustrated called him " 6'1'' , 240 pounds of pure deterrence." Tony generates a respect among other teams that provides a little more skating room for his Blues teammates and makes him a big favorite with fans all around the league. Known for his off-ice compassion as well as his on-ice toughness, Tony actively supports many local and national causes, and genuinely enjoys his unique rapport with fans. Born May 9, 1968 in Prince George, B.C., Tony and his wife Jocelyn, daughter Brittany and son Christian make their off season home in Kamloops, B.C. and enjoy the wide variety of outdoor activities available there. Tony is especially fond of the mild climate that is just perfect for cruising on one of his Harleys. once again this summer Tony hosts

Extractions: April 13, 2003 On the Briefs I am finishing up with the briefs, but before posting the grades, I wanted to talk to you about two things, one very serious, and one less so. On the more serious issue, despite repeated warnings, at least two people have plagiarized their briefs, and at least one of these appears to have been purchased (it was used in a media law class at another school). As I noted earlier, my initial response is to press for expulsionand I feel doubly this way in a law class. However, another person in the program has persuaded me to offer a chance at redemption. If these people contact me by midnight of April 15, we can talk about the possibilities of a lesser punishment (though the minimal grade of a on the assignment is assumed no matter what). In a much less serious vein, at least two of you (I'm not done yet) have used "squash" for "quash." They are not the same thing (though you wouldn't know it by looking at Roget's!): one is for bugs and pumpkins and one is for court orders and the like. Extractions: November 1999 by Jan Petterson (translated by Hans Petter Johnsen) On the ice, hes a warrior that does everything to help his team, But Gino Odjicks fight goes beyond the arenas. He fights for a better life for his fellow Indians One of the proudest moments for the Native Americans is the triumph at Little Bighorn in 1876. But the victory over general George Custer and his 265 cavaliers was the beginning of the end for the Indians. A few years after Little Bighorn, the once so proud chiefs had been moved to small reservoirs where only illness and general misery dominated. The life situation hasnt improved much in the 20 th century for the Indians. The social problems with unemployment and abuse get worse every year. The Algonquin Indian Gino Odjick grew up under the described conditions. He spent his childhood in a reservoir near Maniwaki in Quebec where he attended school along with his sisters. In the middle of the 70s, Odjick begun playing hockey and as an 18 year old, he took the step up to the QMJHL team Laval Titan. By then, Gino had got a reputation as a fighter that loved to fight for his teammates. It may sound strange that an Indian plays hockey, but there are actually many of todays NHL-stars that descends from the old Native American tribes.

Tony Twist, late of the St. Louis Blues hockey team, says he lost endorsement revenue due to Todd McFarlane Productions' use of his name. McFarlane admits to using Twist's name, but says that any other similarities between the real-life hockey player and his Mafioso comic book character end with the name. If McFarlane loses the appeal, he worries that the large cash award might put his company out of business. *In all fairness, he IS a hockey player. Maybe someone should explain to him the difference between comic books and real life. Get over yourself!! If nobody used you for endorsements, it wasn't because of how your name was used in a comic book.

Does Hockey Love Kids? - 3. What Kids Had To Say. Cherry said. (The book) is a fiction flavored with truisms. In the book, young tony loves to play hockey, but things are taking a strange twist. http://www.auracom.com/~ammaudio/ans5.html
Extractions: Cherry in Kids Book's Corner By Brian Medel Halifax Chronicle Herald Don Cherry pulls no punches. He dresses like a 19th-century dandy and talks tough about pro hockey. That is why it might be hard to picture Don as a 15 year-old with red eyes, wiping away the tears as he trudges home through the crisp Kingston, Ont. night air after playing the worst junior B game of his life. "That's a true story," Cherry said in a phone interview from his Toronto home. He has seldom told anyone that tale from his youth, but thought it would fit in nicely in the pages of a new children's book published in Nova Scotia. Cherry told about events on a snowy evening in Kingston... where he tried too hard and played a lousy game.(Details in book) Cherry has tried to keep a positive attitude about everything in life ever since. Cherry rarely allows his name to be used in connection with books, but this time has made an exception. As a result, Christopher Meuse, a first-time author, has something few others will ever get- accolades from Hockey Night in Canada's resident curmudgeon.
