Nine former Wolverine ice hockey players are currently playing on one of seven different NHL teams this season. The University and its highly successful collegiate hockey program span the width of the continental United States. Five U-M alumni can be found on the NHL rosters of the New York Islanders (David Harlock), New York Rangers (Mike Knuble, Chris Tamer), New Jersey Devils (Brendan Morrison) and Carolina Panthers (Steve Halko) along the east coast. The Vancouver Canucks (Bill Muckalt) and San Jose Sharks (Jeff Norton, Steve Shields) on the west coast claim three Wolverines.
