Extractions: The Vancouver Canucks acquired Brad May and a 1999 third-round draft pick from the Buffalo Sabres on February 5, 1998 in exchange for left-winger Geoff Sanderson. A former first-round pick, May has been riddled with injuries in his NHL career. Once considered a Cam Neely clone, May enjoyed his best season in a Buffalo uniform in 1993-94, recording 18 goals and 45 points The six-foot-one, 210-pound May is typical of the kind of player Vancouver head coach Mike Keenan loves to have on his team. May, 26, had 13 goals and 10 assists in 63 games in 1997-98. He also piled up 154 penalty minutes. In 452 career games, May has accumulated 1364 penalty minutes. "Brad is a first-class individual," Sabres assistant general manager Larry Carriere said at the time of the trade. "In his six years here, he's given us hard work and dedication. It's difficult to trade a player of that caliber."
