Be sure to include your name and hometown with the question. You wrote : "With (Claude) Lemieux on the roster, the opposition will think twice about taking a shot at the Stars' stars, such as C Mike Modano." Huh? Why? Has Claude the Turtle become a tough guy? Maybe the problem is that I live in Detroit, but "tough" is not the first, or even second, word that comes to my mind when his name comes up. No need to rehash the whole Lemieux/Kris Draper/Darren McCarty thing, but you're trying to sell a guy whose teammates gave up on him for not defending himself as an enforcer. He has 37 PIM this year. Didn't Ruslan Salei get that in one game last year?
Extractions: January 19, 2003 Print it Veteran RW Claude Lemieux is a great playoff performer, and even if he doesn't end up being a great goal scorer in the playoffs, the Stars made a good deal getting him from the Coyotes for LW Scott Pellerin and a conditional 2004 draft pick. With Lemieux on the roster, the opposition will think twice about taking a shot at the Stars' stars, such as C Mike Modano. Lemieux who has helped win Stanley Cups with the Canadiens, Devils (twice) and Avalanche can keep a team on an even keel during the ups and downs of the playoffs. For the Coyotes, the deal makes dollars and sense. Lemieux's $6.5 million total salary for the rest of this season and all of the next was too much to handle, and they're unlikely to make the playoffs when Lemieux is at his best. Pellerin's salary for this season is $1 million. . . .

Four-time Stanley Cup winner Claude Lemieux was acquired from the Phoenix Coyotes for healthy scratch Scott Pellerin and a conditional draft pick. In doing so, the Stars may have just secured the Stanley Cup. The 37-year-old Lemieux has admittedly lost a step, but is always a threat in the playoffs and remains one of the nastiest opponents in the game today. Just ask the Stars' always-confused defenseman Richard Matvichuk. In the 2000 Stanley Cup Finals, Matvichuk had his glove off while talking to a referee. Lemieux, slowly and stealthly skated by and put the lumber onto his hand. Mean, spiteful incidents like this are why Lemieux is hated by opponents and loved by teammates. Lemieux's $3.1 million salary almost certainly played a part in the deal, but you've got to figure Phoenix, mired in the basement, wanted to give Lemieux one more shot at another Cup. Lemieux is obviously game: "Given the opportunity and the scenario, I can bring as much as I brought six, seven or eight years ago."

Mile High Stanley's Avs Page -- Claude Lemieux Tribute claude lemieux by far is my most favorite Avs player. Most people hate him but notme! A lot of people think he is cheap and dirty? Well not this hockey fan! http://www.milehighstanley.com/claude.html

Born: July 16, 1965 in Buckingham, Quebec Acquired: Traded to Colorado on Oct. 3, 1995 in a three team trade that sent Wendel Clark to the NY Islanders and Steve Thomas to the New Jersey Devils. CLAUDE TRADED? TELL ME THIS IS A BAD DREAM!! The day I hoped would never happen has happened. Claude Lemieux has been traded back to the New Jeresy Devils for Brian Rolston. This is very sad news and a dark day for me here at Mile High Stanley's AVS Page. I have always been a huge fan of Claude as you can tell with my tribute! And when the Avs traded for Claude to start the 95-96 season I was thrilled to have one of my favorite players playing here in Denver. No matter what I will still be a very big Claude fan no matter who he plays for! He is a class guy and one of the best playoff performers ever to skate in the NHL. He was a pivotal part of the Avs cup winning season back in 1996. No question the memory that will stand out the most is game 6 of the Western Conference Finals against Detroit. That was the game Claude hits Draper for the famous "hit". I will not remember the hit so much as how Claude played that game and what he did after the game.

Extractions: Right Wing, Shoots Right, 6' 1", 226 lbs. Born: Buckingham, Quebec - July 16, 1965. Montreal's 2nd Choice, 26th Overall, in 1983 Entry Draft If you look at the list of the top-ten All-Time Playoff Goal Scorers it reads like this: Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Jari Kurri, Glenn Anderson, Brett Hull, Mike Bossy, Maurice Richard, Claude Lemieux, Jean Beliveau, Mario Lemieux. Claude Lemieux? How did he sneak in there? THE SKILLS If you follow the NHL, especially during the postseason, then you know that Claude Lemieux is one of those guys that has taken advantage of the postseason spotlight on more than one occasion. He's won four Stanley Cups (that's double what another famous hockey player named Lemieux has won) and has accomplished that feat with three different teams. Just lucky to be along for the ride? Hardly. Lemieux broke into the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens in the 1983-84 season appearing in only eight contests but notching a goal, an assist, and 12 penalty minutes. Lemieux was sent to Verdun of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for seasoning the following year and earned First All-Star Team honors. However, he did appear in one contest with the Habs, registering an assist and seven penalty minutes - a typical Claude Lemieux evening. Still not a regular at the NHL level in the 1985-86 campaign, Lemieux skated with the Canadiens in 10 regular season contests racking up 22 penalty minutes, a goal and a pair of assists. Lemieux hung on with Montreal that year having been named to the Canadiens' postseason roster. It was during this season that Lemieux had his first taste of champagne from Lord Stanley's Cup as his Habs bested the Calgary Flames in just five games. It would be unfair to say that Lemieux was a hanger-on for his first Cup since he only appeared in 10 regular season games, but during the "second season," Lemieux played in 20 games, notched 10 goals, 16 points, and was obviously a physical presence as his 68 penalty minutes would indicate. Of the 10 times Lemieux lit the lamp, four of them were of the game-winning variety.
