Today, NFL fan Brian Finn explains why the Detroit Lions will win 10 games in their first year under head coach Steve Mariucci. Mark it down right now: The Detroit Lions will win 10 games this year. The defensive additions (Dre' Bly, Wali Rainer, Earl Holmes) surely will help take some pressure off of a solid defensive line that features veterans Robert Porcher and Luther Eliss, as well as up-and-comers Shaun Rogers, Kalimba Edwards and James Hall.

Extractions: Monday - April 14, 2003 ......No, We Are Devo Hockeybird Readers skate in Queens, NY. Radek Dvorak scored one of the great highlight goals of these playoffs so far and gave his Edmonton Oilers a lead in that series , 2 games to 1 as the Oil staged a third period comeback with all three of their goals coming in the final stanza. The Devs beat the Bruins for a 3-0 series lead. Broduer and Co. look poised to advance this time, unlike last years first round loss to the 'Canes. The big game of the day took place in Astoria, Queens....here in NY as Hockeybird readers gathered for the first ever Official Hockeybird Roller Hockey game. Thanks go out to Melvin and Alitaki, Hockeybird messageboard regulars who put this together and did a great job. I have some images of the event and hope to create a page to display them all. While I put on the pads for a bit it was clear to all that roller hockey is NOT my game.......but I do admit that it was a lot of fun. Thanks to all of you who showed up and I hope the Jersey game that is being talked about happens.....if you live in the area you should make it a point to show up, even if you don't play. Meeting everyone and having a beer is worth it. We really need to do a Hockeybird game on ice......now THAT would be fun.

Just like Barry Bonds and Jaromir Jagr before him, Alexei Kovalev has left the former City of Champions for greener pastures. Meanwhile, Penguin fans are left with nothing but a bunch of outdated bobblehead dolls. Kovalev was dealt to the New York Rangers Monday in an eight-player trade that looked more like a cruel April Fool's joke than a real NHL transaction. Kovalev was sent back to the team he started his NHL career with along with left winger Dan LaCouture and defensemen Janne Laukkanen and Mike Wilson for right wingers Mikael Samuelsson and Rico Fata, defensemen Joel Bouchard and Richard Lintner and a cash payment of $3,999,999.99. Why the odd amount? Penguins GM Craig Patrick stated earlier that he wanted $4 million in any deal for Kovalev, who is scheduled for arbitration after this season and can be an unrestricted free agent after next year, but the league would not permit any cash payment of $4 million or more. So take one penny away and all is well.

Extractions: titans writes Here's the deal. I've mentioned to trademan (the owner of this site and HTR) in the past about some kinda contest between this madhouse...uh I mean site and HTR. He seemed interested, but I can't seem to get the details ironed out in my head. I know, I know this is shocking coming from someone as creative and intelligent as myself, but hey works putting alot of strain on my creativity lately. So anyway, anyone got any ideas? What kinda contest is it? I've been thinking something along the lines of those cheesey MTV Road Rules vs Real World shows, two teams playing against each other for something. We would be the ones to benefit from this since it would get this site some attention over there. Plus we can beat those stuffy dopes. That place is as boring as Great One on a saturday night!
