Extractions: AMHERST, MA - Northeastern tied UMass-Amherst Saturday night in Amherst 2-2. The Huskies led 2-1 at the end of the second period. But UMass dominated the third period, outshooting NU 12-4. The Minutemen were frustrated for much of the period, by the outstanding play of Mike Gilhooly (35 saves) and by the post, which they hit three times in the final period. But UMass finally got the equalizer at 12:25 when Jay Shaw got the luck in front off the boards and scored the goal. In overtime, UMass held a five to four advantage in shots, but Northeastern had the best scoring chance. Graig Mischler got the puck in front and put a shot on goa. But UMass goalie Mike Johnson (33 saves) made a spectaculr glove save, robbing the senior. UMass-Amherst got on the board in the first period on a fluke-type goal. UMA's Brad Nizwantowski had the puck along the left boards in the NU zone. His centering pass deflected off NU defenseman Arik Engbrecht's skate and through the legs of Husky goalie Mike Gilhooly at 5:25 of the first. The Huskies scored twice in the second period to take a 2-1 lead. With the teams skating four players aside, UMass iced the puck. Sean MacDonald won the ensuing faceoff to the right of UMass goalie Mike Johnson. Mike Jozefowicz controlled the puck, sending it back to MacDonald along the boards. MacDonald then cross the puck to Joe Mastronardi whose one-timer beat Johnson at 4:56. A trio of Husky seniors got together for NU's next goal. Brian Cummings got the puck to Matt Keating behind the UMass net. Keating spotted Kevin Welch streaking to the net and Welch sent home the one-timer at 13:20.
