HickokSports.com - Biography - Ray Bourque bourque, raymond J. hockey. b. Dec. 28, 1960, Montreal, PQ. CareerStatistics. After three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior hockey http://www.hickoksports.com/biograph/bourquer.shtml
Extractions: Alpha Index Index by Sport Index of Women Career Statistics After three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Bourque was a first-round draft choice of the NHL's Boston Bruins in 1979 and he became a starting defenseman immediately. Bourque won the 1980 Calder Trophy as the league's rookie of the year and he was named Norris Trophy winner as the league's outstanding defenseman in 1987, 1988, 1990, and 1991. The 5-foot-11, 210-pound Bourque is a very intelligent defenseman, almost subtle in his approach. While many other defensemen focus on checking as hard as possible, Bourque usually checks an opponent just hard enough to separate him from the puck, which he then takes control off. Bourque excels on the power play because of his strong left-handed slap shot.

Or, maybe the ice? Whatever the reason, the Boston Bruins hold the patent on superstar defensemen who spend the vast majority of their stellar careers with the same team. Can the names get any bigger than Edward William Shore, Robert Gordon Orr and Raymond Jean Bourque, Hall of Famers all? In the case of Bourque, he is a Hall of Famer in waiting. Add a fourth Hall of Famer, Aubrey (Dit) Clapper, who was merely the first guy ever to play 20 NHL seasons, 11 of them on defense. All told, you've got 55 seasons and more than 3,000 games of Bruins hockey by Hall of Famers, spanning the years 1925 to the present.
Raymond Bourque Exemplifies Old-time Qualities t'amuses en jouant au hockey". "Pat Burns reconnaît l'importance des anciens". raymond bourque n'est pas heureux http://www.eagletribune.com/news/stories/19990809/LI_001.htm
Extractions: Raymond Bourque exemplifies old-time qualities When you talk hockey players, Raymond Bourque rates among the elite in Boston Bruins history. In any National Hockey League team's history, for that matter. The Boxford resident is certainly the best-conditioned athlete in Bruins history. How else do you explain the fact that he just completed his 20th season and at age 38 will be back for more next year? Raymond Bourque More importantly, Mr. Bourque is headed to hockey's Hall of Fame when he retires. He is a throwback to the old days: no show-off, no controversy, just a solid performer who lets his play speak for itself. This Master of the Millennium's portfolio is crammed with awards. He was rookie of the year in 1978-79 and chosen as the best NHL defenseman five times. Further, Mr. Bourque was an all-star selection for 18 seasons. Two years ago, he was picked as the Most Valuable Player in the National Hockey League's All-Star game. He will be back again next season and who knows after that? He isn't saying, but he may give hockey another spin at age 40. Off the ice, he is a family man who devotes much time to children's charities and to his family: wife, Christiane; daughter, Melissa, and sons, Christopher and Ryan.

Everybody Loves Raymond and whining, everybody should love raymond bourque, a class Most of us were thrilledfor bourque's dream of winning the coveted hockey championship trophy. http://www.eagletribune.com/news/stories/20010616/ED_001.htm
Extractions: Out of the corner of his eyes he caught the shiny Stanley Cup trophy blazing a trail behind him. "There it is," pointed Bourque. "That's it." Most of us were thrilled for Bourque's dream of winning the coveted hockey championship trophy. And for good reason. For 22 years more than 20 of which were in Boston Bourque exemplified a combination of incredible talent and equally incredible sportsmanship. With all that's not good in professional sports today, especially the greed, the social misfits and the incessant whining of athletes, Bourque bucked the trend. He not only took less money to play hockey in a city he loved, but has always been there when a charity, a sick child or injured fan needed attention. You can't find a player in the NHL with a derogatory thing to say about Bourque. "There is nobody I respect in this league more than Ray Bourque," said sharp-shooter Brett Hull at the All-Star Game in Boston four years ago. "He doesn't complain about anything. He just plays hockey to the best of his ability all the time. And he is one of the most talented players of all time."
