Top Basketball team takes MIAC crown The Concordia College men's basketball team won its second straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship in 52 years. Concordia chalked up a 14-4 won-lost record in the MIAC and ended 17-8 overall in regular season play. With three games remaining in the season, the Cobbers clinched the MIAC title Feb. 20 by defeating last-place St. Mary's College, Winona, Minn., by a score of 70-67. The win gave the Cobbers a berth in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics District 13 playoffs. In first-round play on March 5, Concordia played Northern Intercollegiate Conference runner-up Southwest State University, Marshall, Minn. After a slow start that put the Cobbers at a 10-point deficit, Concordia came back and scored 17 unanswered points to win the contest 100-88. In the NAIA District 13 final on March 9, the Cobbers were pitted against St. John's University, Collegeville, Minn. Each team had earned a win over the other in two games played earlier in the season. In the title game, St. John's 60 percent field goal success rate proved to be more than the Cobbers could handle. Concordia was knocked out of further post-season competition by a score of 84-70. Prestigious NAIA District 13 and all-MIAC honors were garnered by two Cobber seniors for their outstanding performance on the season. Seven-foot center
