Extractions: posted October 20, 2002 By Jack McCarthy Longtime veteran journalist Jack McCarthy has extensively covered the NBA. His varied career as editor, publisher and sportwriter has included covering the heydey years of the Cleveland This is the second of four columns evaluating each NBA division prior to the start of the season. CENTRAL DIVISION ATLANTA HAWKS Just like last year and the year before, and the year before that, etc., etc., etc. Atlanta enters the season expecting a playoff run after making a major offseason addition. That's exactly how it looks on paper. However, Hawks fans have read those papers before. They expected to contend last season after picking up Abdur-Rahim. Instead, they lost Ratliff for nearly the entire season and never really settled on a playing rotation. Without Ratliff, the defense was horrible, and the Hawks didn't surround Terry and Abdur-Rahim with enough offensive talent to make up for it. I hope it starts a trend.
Defense Of My Fantasy Basketball Trades fantasy basketball leagues are people with an interest and working knowledge of basketballplayers, teams I trade Brad Miller for theo ratliff and Rodney Rogers. http://g-sports.netfirms.com/g-sports/article6.html
Extractions: Defense Of My Fantasy Basketball Trades March 18, 2002 My fantasy sports league is in the midst of the playoffs. I won in the opening round and have moved on to the conference championship. Barring unforeseen circumstances, I fully plan to play in the league championship game. However, my modus operandi in building my team has come into question throughout the season. Other franchises in the league have dubbed me "Trader Amol" for my numerous two for 1 trades with the bottom feeders of the league. They think that I have taken advantage of the noncontending teams, in hopes to lure superstars from their teams with quantity over quality trades. Below is a list of the trades I have made and my defense for each. Fellow fantasy sports competitors, lend me your ears... err eyes. I believe that all of my trades have been legitimate. Because they have been considered lopsided is merely 20/20 hindsight. I have been told that I take advantage of other participants in my fantasy league and their lack of basketball knowledge. I think that such comments are inappropriate because the only people who sign up and participate in fantasy basketball leagues are people with an interest and working knowledge of basketball players, teams, and most importantly, statistics. What follows is an examination of my trades in question: I trade Lamar Odom and Damon Stoudamire for Vlade Divac On paper, I gave up more than what I received. However, I understand that this is the nature of fantasy sports. A person, if desperate, will pay more for a need. I needed a top notch center, which Divac was at the time of the trade. No one could have predicted Odom's atrocious season due to injury and hippie lettuce addiction. This trade involved 1 starting forward and 1 capable backup guard for 1 starting center. I don't believe that anyone was "taken" in this trade.

In the past couple weeks Pippen has average closed to 3.5 steals per game, 6 boards and 5 assists. For those who cite his lack of scoring hes even been doing that of later averaging around 15 points per game and over a 3 per game. For those in need of an all around contributor look no further. Click to Fantasy Baseball Review Offers for details. Now is the time to trade for Ray Allen. He was hurt, and he's still not all the way back yet. His numbers aren't quite as high as they will be when he's back into game shape, but he's playing enough that his owner -deep deep inside his head - is beginning to wonder if he's just having a bad year. Make him a nice offer, and watch Ray have a great second half. It's a gamble, but with his record of durability, it's a darn good one. Leon Smith, who was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks at the age of 19, only to have severe mental issues (ranging from a suicide attempt to property damage apparently over an ex-girlfriend) and be relegated to the CBA, has just been given a 10-day contract by the Hawks. Smith was tearing up the CBA with double-doubles in regularity. With Theo Ratliff still out, and now Toni Kukoc injured, the Hawks need somebody on the bench to back up the three-headed monster of Dion Glover-DerMarr Johnson-Hanno Mottola. Smith has more upside than either Glover or Mottola, and it will be intriguing to see if the Hawks give him any real minutes or relegate him to scrub status. It'd be nice to see this kid get another chance.
