Extractions: December 9, 2002 Print it Don't you love when you're watching a sporting event and you see athletes playing their hearts out, getting the most out of their bodies regardless of their physical gifts? You can't always play well, but you can certainly extend yourself to your physical limits every night. With that in mind, I would like to present the All-Rambis team players who might have dirt under their fingernails. You love these guys when they're on your team but dread them as opponents. Now, there are plenty of players with a ton of talent and this same kind of passion. I admire the toughness and work ethic of Karl Malone and John Stockton. I respect the relentlessness of Jason Kidd, Elton Brand, Kevin Garnett and Steve Nash. But those guys already get enough recognition. They shoot too much to be considered for the All-Rambis team. For my team, I chose players more likely to get a floor burn than end up on a SportsCenter highlight. Ryan Bowen, Nuggets.

Extractions: with non-stop cool KOBE is cool. It's taken me a long time to admit that. First, there was that whole young punk thing. Then there's how he is able to have his hair stick out behind him, so that it always looks like he's going real fast, even when he's doing something dead still, like conducting an interview. And he really, really stuck it to me when he took singer Brandy to the prom. (Curse him! He's always one step ahead!) But last night he got to me. He converted me. I got swept up in the moment. This guy is cool. Maybe it was the way he strutted in the gym, leading the Lakers through the layup line to an updated, funked-up version of "The Jeffersons" theme song. (That's cool.) Perhaps it was when he made a spectacular block, then ignited the offense by making a midair save from out of bounds. (Cool again.) Maybe it's the fact that he's already getting "Jordan Calls." (From turnover to free throw in just seconds just add stink eye. Extremely cool.) Of course it might have had something to do with the play where he took that invisible escalator and goosh!-ed it through with emphatic grace. Cool.

Perhaps his greatest asset is his toughmindedness as a player. He hates losing and never gives in. He is physically strong and can score in a crowd. He is one of the more unique players I have ever had as far as his ability. Brian is a very bold player in his approach to the game and he has always fared well against other good players."
