The best thing I do in Basketball is shooting and rebounding. I also run fast so that makes me a vaulable player. I hope one day I can go play in the NBA. The best shooting trick I have is the Doulbe Reverse Lay-up and the Cross-Dribble Lay-up.

Extractions: [ Contents Back to Hornets Date: From staff and wire reports "He was just an articulate man who understood how fortunate he was to have professional basketball as his vocation. He never, never took that for granted." Mark Bartelstein, Phills Chicago-based agent "When I got him as a client, he was struggling with making the NBA. Once he got the big deal, to him, it was if nothing had ever really happened. The same laughs we had when he was struggling were the same laughs we had when he got that big contract. "To me, its just devastating. Im just devastated. The guy was not just my client, he was my friend. We spoke just last night, which makes this an even harder day. To think these two kids will grow up without a father is what I keep thinking about. Thats the really terrible, awful thing about this. The world lost a great father and person today." Bartelstein on Phills rise from making the NBA minimum to signing a 7-year, $32.48 million deal with Charlotte in 1997 "Bobby Phills was all that you would want in a human being. ... He had extreme high character. A family man. I cant tell you what he meant to the Cavs. If theres a person you would want to your children to be, a role model, its Bobby Phills. This is a sad day."

It is sad to have a game like this in the memory of a friend, but youve got to do what youve got to do." Torontos Muggsy Bogues on having to play Wednesday, the day Phills died. Bogues played with Phills for the Hornets in the 1997-98 season. "Hes a guy Ive been friends with forever. I can remember when he first set foot on the campus. He was a 6-5 center, and he always wanted to be a big guard in the NBA. That was one of his dreams. He has a beautiful wife and two children. My wife (Cassandra) is en route to Charlotte now to be with the family. We will be at the funeral in Baton Rouge. You just wonder why something like this has to happen to a guy." San Antonios Avery Johnson. Johnson played with Phills at Southern University. "Its really a tragedy, and from the teams standpoint, theres two people in Sidney (Lowe) and Terrell (Brandon) that were extemely close to him. Hes a self-made guy. And as a father, hes someone youd want your kids to be like very responsible, unbelievably hard working. He cares about people." Minnesota coach Flip Saunders.
