Extractions: SoCalHoops Memorial Tribute Earl "The Goat" Manigualt Is Dead At 53(May 19, 1998) Our sincere thanks to reader "Jesus Shuttlesworth" who alerted us to this sad news by posting a message on the SoCalHoops Message Forum of the death of Earl "The Goat" Manigualt. He died Friday at the age of 53 from heart failure. For those who didn't know, Earl Manigualt was the greatest player never to make the NBA. He was a legendary jumper, with an incredible vertical, who made dunking an art form at a time when the game was traditionally played "below the rim", before the era of Michael Jordan, before Magic Johnson, and at a time when Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was still known as Lew Alcindor. Earl "The Goat'' Manigault was a New York City playground legend whose heroin addiction cost him a professional career. His life was the subject of a 1996 HBO movie, " "The Legend of Earl 'The Goat' Manigault," aka "The Goat." If you haven't seen it, go rent it. You won't be sorry. And if you think your life as a future star is assured, then really, go rent the movie. Unlike the fiction of "He Got Game", the story of The Goat is real, and it should serve as a warning beacon to all young players about the dangers of becoming complacent, and the destructive power of drugs in the world of sports. Manigault, at 6'-1", was "the best player his size in the history of New York City,'' according to Abdul-Jabbar, who often played against "The Goat'' in city parks during the 1960s. Manigault's domination of other players at the 98th Street courts was so complete that the park eventually became known as "Goat Park.''

Sky Movies Goat' manigault Sporting biopic starring Don Cheadle as basketball player earl manigault, who bounced back from drug addiction to inspire the kids of Harlem. http://www.skymovies.com/skymovies/article/0,,11130639,00.html
Extractions: Worthy though this biopic of basketball player Earl Manigault is, thanks to a rather superficial script it fails to inspire as it should. It's the story of a kid from Harlem who makes good on the basketball court but falls victim to drugs and eventually makes good again. Apart from the central character, played well by Don Cheadle, many of the other characters are too thinly written and a class cast that includes James Earl Jones, Forest Whitaker and Ronny Cox battles to fill them out. The other problem is, of course, British audiences have never hear of The Goat... Still a solid directing effort from Eriq La Salle, one of the stars of ER.

Extractions: Today I would like to dedicate my journalistic endeavors to the memory of basketball legend, Earl Manigault. Earl " The Goat" Manigault, was a New York City playground legend and was the subject of the HBO movie "Rebound". Goat's superior basketball talent deteriorated with years of heroin use, depriving him of a chance for a professional career. Manigault died on May 14, 1998 at the age of 53. Like many of our talented brothers from the streets, bad breaks and a lack of discipline sent him stumbling into a world of heroin addiction and petty crimes. You do not have to be from Harlem to identify with the Goat or athletes and their lack of discipline. Professional Basketball players are under the microscope due to recent expose of their sexual behavior, in Sports Illustrated (SI), The Oprah Winfrey Show and CNN. I want to take a serious but satirical look at this phenomenon. Warning, this column may offend some. So let me start by telling you an old "Joke" to warm you up. A young British man, truly in love with his girlfriend, decided to have her name tattooed on his penis. Her name was Wendy, and the tattoo was done while his penis was erect, so when it was flaccid all you could see was W Y. The young couple married and honeymooned in Jamaica. One day while standing at a urinal, the groom looked over and noticed a Jamaican man next to him who also had a W Y on his penis. "Is your girl named Wendy, too ?" the Brit asked. "No, mon ... that say, 'Welcome To Jamaica Have a Nice Day.'"

Rasputin was the dissolute "holy man" whose healing powers made him part of the royal family...and whose exotic sexual magnetism enthralled and outraged the nobility. Alan Rickman (Die Hard) stars in this epic drama as the strange man who used his mysterious powers for both good and evil...and helped push a nation into revolution. Ian McKellen (And the Band Played On) and Greta Scacchi are the tragic Tsar and Tsarina, Nicholas and Alexandra. They defined "cool" in the '50s and '60s. They were Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Peter Lawford, and their brash antics made life in the fast lane look like the only way to go. This candid, probing drama reveals the truth about these four superstars whose private lives were often at odds with their public images. With Don Cheadle, Angus MacFayden and Deborah Kara Unger.
