Extractions: As a junior, Tim Duncan tore up the ACC competition. He was voted the player of the year in the conference his junior year. He averaged 19.1 points, 12.3 rebounds, and had 120 blocks. He was top 10 in the nation for rebounds and blocks. He also shot 55.5% for the floor. During the ACC tournament, he averaged 22.7 points and 18.7 rebounds. Wake Forest won the tournament and he was voted MVP. Jacque Vaughn was the Tommie Frazier of college basketball this past season. He led his Kansas team to the Elite 8. He is one of the greatest creators with the basketball in college history. Many people don't think that he can shoot the outside shot really well, but he shot right around 45% last year. A respectable mark for most. Danny Fortson is one of the most physical players I have ever seen. He combines strong moves with a soft touch. Fortson is one of best rebounders in the college game. He will back next year looking to lead the Bearcats all the way. ANTAWN JAMISON, SOPH. FORWARD, UNC

He finished his Stanford basketball career as the school's all-time scorer, while playing on the second-winningest Cardinal team ever. Adam Keefe could dunk, too. He also scored and rebounded with a passion, winding up as the No. 2 career scorer and No. 1 rebounder in school history. When Brevin Knight walks off the floor in Maples Pavilion on Saturday night, following Stanford's Pacific-10 Conference finale against Arizona State (7:30 p.m.), he, too, will pass into Cardinal lore as did Lichti and Keefe. While the 5-foot-10 Knight didn't match up physically with the 6-4 Lichti and the 6-9 Keefe or leave his name as often in the record books, Knight's impact during coach Mike Montgomery's tenure at Stanford may be the most important. "It's a legacy of success," Montgomery said this week as he prepared his 18-7 team for a run at an NCAA berth. "Of all the guys here that I've had, certainly he's the one who's come in, in the most difficult situation because we were coming off a real bad year.

Basketball Basketball: Bulldogs' muscle throws Panthers to first loss of year Wednesday, January 01, 2003 By Phil Axelrod, Post-Gazette Sports Writer ATHENS, Ga. Georgia gave Pitt a healthy dose of its own brand of basketball yesterday. The Bulldogs showed the Panthers a lot: Strong wide bodies who ran the floor well and blocked shots; steady play from the point guard, toughness on the boards and tenacious defense. More than anything else, Georgia showed a stern will to win that seemed to unsettle and unravel the usually unflappable Panthers. Georgia simply had too much in a 79-67 victory at Stegeman Coliseum that handed Pitt its first loss and most likely will drop the second-ranked Panthers a spot or two in The Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN polls. Had Pitt won, it could have been dreaming about being No. 1 on the heels of top-ranked Alabama's loss to Utah Monday.
Stanford Guard Wants To Turn Knight Into His Day When Lee and knight squared off in practice, it emotion, both became much better basketballplayers. brevin was just so dominating a personality, Montgomery http://www.freep.com/sports/college/qstan28.htm
Extractions: Free Press Sports Writer SAN ANTONIO Just for the sake of time, let's get it out of the way now: Hey, Arthur Lee, what do you think about Brevin Knight? We will return to our Final Four coverage as soon as the Stanford's junior point guard concludes his screaming fit. It's not that Lee doesn't appreciate everything Knight did for him. And it's not that he doesn't maintain the highest respect possible for his predecessor. But Lee has grown increasingly frustrated, to the point of pique, over the constant comparisons to Knight, a three-time All-Pac-10 guard. When Knight departed for the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers, he left a legacy that overshadowed what remained a good, young Cardinal team. But one that nobody thought could get to the Final Four, let alone win one NCAA tournament game, without Knight. "We talk about him all the time," Lee said. "We were wondering when it was going to stop. We felt that this was our team. Everyone here loves Brevin, but after we won so many in a row (a school-record 18 straight games to start the season), we felt like it had to end. But it didn't. Maybe if we win the national championship, it'll stop.... Then again, I don't think that it will ever end." At 6-feet, Lee will be the shortest starter on the floor today when the Cardinal meets Kentucky in the NCAA semifinal opener. But he could have the biggest impact.
Sports.mhoops a senior, knows the importance of knight's contribution to others better and I thinkBrevin has demonstrated guard can be to your basketball team, Montgomery http://www.dailybruin.ucla.edu/DB/issues/97/01.09/sports.mhoops.html
Extractions: and Hye Kwon Daily Bruin Staff Ever since the start of fall practice, Pacific 10 basketball coaches have been doing a marvelous job of referring to the conference as one of the most competitive ones in the nation. Often that's just coach talk, but tonight, as the UCLA men's basketball team travels to the Bay Area to face No. 22 Stanford, the hype surrounding the matchup of the two conference giants will likely live up to its billing. The Bruins (7-3 overall, 2-0 in Pac-10 play) are unranked going into tonight's 5:30 p.m. game at Maples Pavilion but, to their credit, have rolled off four straight victories. Their wins have come thanks to a considerable decrease in turnovers and, more significantly, the use of the full-court trap and the match-up zone. This new defense, drawn up by UCLA head coach Steve Lavin, has worked like a charm for the last four games but has yet to prove itself against a team with a methodical, precise offense led by a superstar point guard. For the last four years, Stanford's Brevin Knight has proven time and again that he is as good as they come at breaking a defense apart. "I think with Brevin Knight you have to have an awareness of where he is at all times," Lavin said. "You have to pinch on the penetration, and have to be quick to recover, because he's so good at finding guys (behind) the three-point line."
