Extractions: Assist Ratio is the number of assists a player gets for each possession used. I figure possessions used by adding the player's assists, field goal attempts, and turnovers, and then adding free throw attempts times 0.44. I then take the whole thing and multiply by 100. So the final formula ends up being: Assist Ratio = Assists*100 Assist+FGA+TO+(FTA*0.44) So who are the top passers in the league? Here's the top ten in Assist Ratio this season::

Extractions: Espn.com May 1, 2000 - AS A POINT GUARD, Terrell Brandon's job is to oversee the offense and get his teammates in a position to succeed. Off the court, Brandon the businessman plays a similar role. As owner of a barber shop and sportswear store in his hometown of North Portland, Oregon, Brandon gets to oversee his employees and help them and his business be successful. For both the Timberwolves and his businesses, Brandon has had a positive impact on the bottom line. Several years ago, Brandon had a vision of opening some type of business near his childhood neighborhood. The area was devoid of retail stores as the presence of crime and gangs scared off potential proprietors. Brandon was advised to also avoid the area, but he wanted to make a difference instead of running from the problems. I was advised not to (open a business), but I care about the neighborhood," Brandon said. "I care about the hard parts of our neighborhood and for me to take my business to a neighborhood that already had everything would be foolish and disrespectful. I wanted to show the young and old that sometimes it takes more than money to give back to the community. Sometimes it also takes time and effort." The idea for a barber shop had been in Brandon's mind for some time. When he was 10, a barber shaved his head by mistake. "Oh, I cried and cried." said Brandon. "I looked terrible." That bad haircut led to Brandon having his friend, Daunte' Paschal, become his personal barber. The two would talk about someday opening up their own barbershop. Now, that childhood vision is reality.

Features - Terrell Brandon: A Class Act Leads NBA In Sportsmanship BOSTON Milwaukee's terrell brandon can claim one National basketball Associationhonor that Michael Jordan can't. He is a winner of the NBA Sportsmanship http://www.csmonitor.com/durable/1998/01/05/feat/sports.1.html
Extractions: Monday January 5, 1998 Edition Ross Atkin, Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor BOSTON Milwaukee's Terrell Brandon can claim one National Basketball Association honor that Michael Jordan can't. He is a winner of the NBA Sportsmanship Award, a distinction bestowed on just one other player so far, Detroit's Joe Dumars. The league instituted the award last season, perhaps in part to offset the poor example of certain players. The selection of Dumars kick-started the tradition as the season opened, but then, in what will be the usual pattern, Brandon was named the best sportsman at the end of the 82-game campaign. WINNER: Brandon received the second NBA Sportsmanship Award. When approached at a morning shootaround in Boston before a recent Bucks-Celtics game, Brandon removed his wraparound shades and acknowledged his surprise at winning the award, voted on by members of the media. It's not that he feels unworthy to be the 1996-97 recipient, it's just that he only does what comes naturally. When frustration tempts him, Brandon says in his deep voice, he shifts focus. "I remember not to be an embarrassment to my family or my hometown of Portland, Ore. I also remember the type of training my parents instilled in me."
