Schedule Travis Best, a 6'1 guard originally from Frankfort, IN, is a transfer from the University of Louisville and will have two years of eligibility remaining at Purdue beginning in the 2000-2001 season. After two seasons of limited playing opportunities with the University of Louisville, Best transferred and ended up at Purdue where Coach Keady agreed to take him as an invited walk-on. Tuition at Purdue wasn't an issue due to his mother being a Purdue employee. While Purdue's name briefly came up during his recruitment as a senior in high school, Tulane was one of the schools that got the most attention besides Louisville.

Extractions: INDIANA PACERS vs. NEW YORK KNICKS - 93-80 (4-2) June 2, 2000 An interview with TRAVIS BEST Q. Got hung up, you had one driving layup there. Really tried to help sink them, made a ten-point lead. You sense the blood in the water? TRAVIS BEST: I had to make a play. I took it as strong as I could to the lane. I got bumped in. I tried to use my strength to get to ball to the rim. I was able to get it off the backboard. Q. Was that the killer instinct you guys supposedly lacked we saw here tonight? TRAVIS BEST: I thought so. No hesitation. Just attack and take shots when you have to. You saw Regg pulling the stepbacks and big jumps for us. In the fourth I just wanted to be out there with him to make some plays with him, and fortunately enough my shot was going down. Q. How sweet is it to win right here? So many times you watch them walk off, celebrate here, jump up and down. TRAVIS BEST: It feels great. We had a lot of down moments in this locker room. This is a tough team to beat in Madison Square Garden. I figure it's that much sweeter to win here and celebrate in this locker room because we've had some down moments. Q. How was the celebration in this locker room?
Extractions: INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA June 11, 2000 An interview with TRAVIS BEST Q. Something about coming home and getting this big win? Talk about your duel with Derek Fisher also that's been going on the last few games. TRAVIS BEST: Well, everyone knows this game was big for us. We didn't want to go down three games to zero. No team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit, so we knew how important this game was. We came out focused. We shot the ball well. We played hard. We played hard like we have all year at home. And as far as Derek Fisher goes, he played a solid game. Ten points, ten assists, he knocked down some big shots for them. He played well tonight, definitely. Q. Tell us a little bit about the tempo tonight and how it may have been different and helped the Pacers. Did you make the Lakers play your tempo? TRAVIS BEST: Yeah. Any time we can get the ball pushed up the floor and get some easy looks at the basket, that's exactly what we're trying to do. Shaq's a big guy, and you don't want to get in the half-court set too much if you can help it, because he can zone the middle. So, I thought we did a good job of defending well and getting out in the break and getting ourselves some easy looks at the hoop. It definitely benefitted us in this game. Q. In Game 2 with Kobe out, Rice and Harper both had big games, 21 points each. What was the difference tonight that didn't allow either one of them to really have a good offensive game?
