The BASEBALL Page - 1999 Harry Frazee Award Randy Smith, Tigers General Manager Juan Gonzalez can hit a baseball pretty hard. hedid it because he knows that onetime ace, justin thompson, is damaged http://www.thebaseballpage.com/features/frazee_award1999.htm
Extractions: by Kirk Robinson In 1917, when Harry Frazee bought the team, the Boston Red Sox were the best franchise in the American League. Out of the thirteen World Series played, the Red Sox had won four. (The A's had won three, the White Sox one, and no other AL team, not even the Yankees, had won a single World Series trophy). Within five years Frazee turned a great team into absolute crap. He sold fifteen players in those five years, most of them to the Yankees including Waite Hoyt, Ernie Shore, Duffy Lewis, Dutch Leonard, Carl Mays, and worst of all he sold Babe Ruth. The Babe, even at that early point in his career, was a legend. He'd thrown 29 and 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings in the World Series, he'd broken every home run record known to man, and he'd packed the stands with fans. Frazee sold the Babe and the Red Sox finished dead last in nine out of the next eleven years. The 1999 Harry Frazee Award Winner Peter Angelos, Orioles Owner

Extractions: Staff Writer The faces and names change each season, but the Augusta GreenJackets' winning tradition continues. The Jackets put the exclamation point on an exemplary first half Friday night with a 10-4 victory over the Charleston (S.C.) RiverDogs to clinch the Southern Division title. Starter Matt Thompson recovered from a shaky first inning and turned in another solid effort as the Jackets came through with six runs in the fifth inning to capture the division crown. With that, the Jackets are headed to the South Atlantic League playoffs for the seventh consecutive season, including a perfect 3-for-3 record as a Boston Red Sox farm club.
