Welcome To Pete Rose's Official Web Site! father, who played semiprofessional football, was the biggest influence on Peteand his sports career. rose spent his childhood playing baseball with friends http://www.peterose.com/bio.htm
Extractions: Peter Edward Rose was born April 14, 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He grew up in Anderson Ferry, Ohio as one of four children to Harry and LaVerne Rose. Pete was encouraged as a young boy to participate in sports. His father, who played semiprofessional football, was the biggest influence on Pete and his sports career. Rose spent his childhood playing baseball with friends and later played for his local little league team. He played both baseball and football at Western Hills High School. Rose played well in high school and signed a contract with the Cincinnati Reds after his high school graduation. He was assigned to play for the Reds minor league team in Geneva, New York. Rose improved his game, and was promoted through the ranks of the Reds organization for the next couple of years. During that time, he played for the Reds farm team in Tampa, Florida and also played for the Class B team in Macon, Georgia. By the start of the 1963 season, Pete was the Reds' regular at second base. His hard working style prompted Hall-of-Fame Yankee pitcher Whitey Ford to label him "Charlie Hustle," a nickname that Rose would be known by for the rest of his career. He hit .273 that season and played in nearly every game. He was rewarded for his efforts that season and was named National League Rookie of the Year in 1963.
December 12, 2002 - Breaking Balls: The Return Of Pete Rose? by Derek Zumsteg. I've gotten a lot of email this week asking if I'm goingto weigh in on the possibility of a pete rose reinstatement to baseball. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/20021212balls.shtml
Extractions: I've gotten a lot of e-mail this week asking if I'm going to weigh in on the possibility of a Pete Rose reinstatement to baseball. This is in the wind because Rose met with Bud Selig to discuss how this might happen, and Selig, lacking both a backbone and any sense of integrity, didn't say "You're not getting back in, thanks for swinging by, I'll have my assistant call you a cab." Rob Neyer just wrote a column on the subject that says what I wanted to say when I read of this stupidity. That said, I'd suggest that Neyer shouldn't be astonished at the result of any online poll. These things attract fanatics. Joe User who felt Rose got what he deserved, and has long since moved on, isn't nearly as likely to vote as someone who, between sending me hate mail, likes to sit around and stew about how the Hit King got screwed. This is a victory for the wrong. The wrong have been so vehement and loud for so long that many people want to see Rose let back in just so they can stop hearing the arguments. Many among the right have been worn down into passive concession, into a willingness to trade something that is wrong and harms their sport for some peace and quiet. Yeah, I'm saying right and wrong. There's a reluctance generally to make moral judgments, to cast everyone as a victim as some kind, but screw that.

Extractions: As of March 26, 2003, the Roelands.Org news portal is closed. After seventeen months, the portal never came close to becoming what I hoped it would. Very few users commented on the stories, and fewer still submitted stories of their own. Sites like Roelands.Org are a dime a dozen, and I suppose that it was unrealistic to think that it would ever generate the sort of community and interactivity that I hoped for. C'est la vie. Some sort of blog will probably appear here in the next few weeks.. I would like to thank the people who submitted stories, posted comments, and plugged the site. The Photo Gallery is not going anywhere, of course. Peace. duane@roelands.org

Extractions: May 12, 1999 Rose has credentials better than many Hall of Famers but is still waiting for induction. (Allsport) If there was ever one single player worthy of Cooperstown recognition it was Pete Rose. The former Cincinnati Reds outfielder/second baseman led the "Big Red Machine" of the 70's to two World Series Championships and still holds numerous major league baseball records. Yet Rose has been banned from baseball since 1989 and has hopes of being reinstated into baseball which would make him a sure-fire Hall of Famer. Rose chatted live on Wednesday, May 12 and talked about how he feels about not being in the Hall of Fame and the current state of baseball. Rose spent 24 years in the major leagues, playing for the Reds, Phillies and Expos. He holds MLB's record for most games played and most hits (4,256) in a career, and is second in doubles with 746. He also won the 1973 MVP award, as well as Rookie of the Year in 1963. A two-time Gold Glove winner, Rose also led the Reds to consecutive World Series titles in 1975-76 and won a title with the Phillies in 1980. Find out what Pete had to say in the full transcript of his chat below.
