AFBL (4/10/03) A week after it was stolen, the decomposed body of the late Darryl Kile was returned to its final resting place, left-center field in the Cereal Bowl. The 33-year-old righthander's remains were shipped back to Newark after getting bombed in its only start for the Tijuana Banditos, giving up 6 earned runs in 5.1 innings. "I've always said that rotting corpses just don't have the stamina to pitch deep into games," said Newark pitching coach Mike Grace. Newark groundskeepers hope to have the body re-interred before Friday's home game against Arkansas.

The Sporting News: Baseball - Pitching Will Lead Mets Past Cards Backed up by righties Rick Reed and bobby jones, the Mets hope to replay their sweepsfrom early in the regular There might not be a better one in baseball. http://www.schindlerslists.com/Articles/SportingNewsMetsvsCardsPrint.htm
Extractions: Today, MLB fan Steve Schindler breaks down the much anticipated Mets-Cardinals series and picks his winner. The Mets are in the midst of yet another improbable playoff drive. After surviving a five-hour Game 3 against San Francisco that ended with an awe-inspiring, 13th-inning smash by Benny Agbayani, the Mets used Bobby Jones' near flawless pitching to put the Giants away in Game 4. Now the surprising Mets rush headlong into a well-rested St. Louis juggernaut that is hunting for fresh balls to beat on with its hot bats. The good news for the Mets is that Jones appears to be at the top of his game after making perhaps one of the best playoff appearances ever, allowing just one lousy hit while shutting down the Giants. This was of particular importance since both teams emptied their bullpens in the Saturday late-night sleepover and Jones wasn't really known for turning in strong, complete-game efforts. Among the Mets' 10-game winners this season abides a stable of three fine lefthanders, led by Al Leiter. If there's anything you must have heading into a series with St. Louis it is strong pitching from the left side of the mound. Backed up by righties Rick Reed and Bobby Jones, the Mets hope to replay their sweeps from early in the regular season before the Cards' bats can recoup for a rally.
Robert Tyre (Bobby) Jones - People Of Georgia Robert Tyre (bobby) jones was born in Atlanta, Georgia on March 17, 1902.He began playing sports when he was a boy, favoring baseball and golf. http://www.netstate.com/states/peop/people/ga_rtj.htm
Extractions: R obert Tyre (Bobby) Jones was born in Atlanta, Georgia on March 17, 1902. He began playing sports when he was a boy, favoring baseball and golf. In 1911, when he was nine years old, Bobby won the Atlanta Junior Golf Championship. As a teenager, there was no question that Bobby's game was golf. He went on to college, graduating from Georgia Tech with a degree in mechanical engineering, and then from Harvard University with a degree in English literature. He continued to excel on the golf course as he pursued his studies. He raised a family, became a lawyer, and at the same time was widely regarded as the greatest amateur golfer to ever play the links. He truly loved the game of golf and inspired the world with his good sportsmanship, his skill, and his phenomenal success at the game. I n 1923 Bobby Jones won the U.S. Open, and for the next eight years he dominated the field. He won the National Open again in 1926, 1929, and 1930. He was victorious in the British Open in 1926, 1927, and 1930. And he won the National Amateur tourneys in 1924, 1925, 1927, 1928, and 1930. In fact, 1930 was one for the record books as Jones captured the U.S. and British Amateurs as well as the U.S. and British Opens all in the same year, becoming the only golfer to ever claim title to the Grand Slam of golf. During this time, Bobby Jones was still in his twenties, and he was already a golfing legend famous not only for his remarkable command of the game, but also for his charisma and grace. With the Grand Slam to his name, he retired from active competition at the age of 28.
