Many AL-only leagues have a rule that states a player traded out of the league has his contract voided. So did Dye owners retain him after he joined the A's? Did Dye become a free agent upon "re-entering" the AL? Did Jose Ortiz owners have the rights to Dye or Neifi Perez? Are Dye owners now stuck with Perez? "We don't play in one of those sissy leagues that allow you to keep the stats of a player traded out of the league," said reader Rod Gates of Derby, Kan. "How do you think it should be handled?"

Bye-bye Jermaine DyeThursday, July 26, 2001 2:15:38 PM Sure, the Royals have been among the best in baseball history in recent years whenit You never want to trade a quality player like jermaine dye, Baird said. http://www.gctelegram.com/sports/2001/July/26/sbyebye.html
Extractions: Date Posted on Thursday, July 26, 2001 2:15:38 PM I think the Kansas City Royals must be really, like, ticked off at me or something. One week ago today, you may remember reading my column ripping the Royals and how they would have a tough time beating our company softball team. It's been hard enough watching the Royals play this year, losing games they should win. Now they've done something that makes the throwing in the towel for the next decade or so official. Jermaine Dye is gone. It was bad enough the Royals couldn't afford to re-sign the centerpiece of their mid-90s "youth movement" in Johnny Damon. But Damon wanted bigger bucks and a chance to play for a winner. And it was especially bad that Kevin Appier, the Royals' best pitcher during the 1990s, had no desire to play for that organization during his final few years in Kansas City. Now Dye, the Royals' first All-Star Game starter since Bo Jackson in 1989, is gone to Oakland to be with Damon. The way I look at it, the Royals might as well send Carlos Beltran and Mark Quinn to Oakland to complete the outfield. While the A's are at it, they should install some fountains beyond the outfield wall to make all the ex-Royals feel at home. Dye is gone.

ESPN Outdoors EO So how are you described as a baseball player and does that carry over to huntingor fishing at See jermaine dye's player profile on ESPN.com's MLB pages. http://espn.go.com/outdoors/hunting/s/h_ath_dye.html
Extractions: If you asked Jermaine Dye a decade ago if he would eventually become a hunter, he would have told you not in a million years. But things change, as the longtime Kansas City Royal right fielder found out this season when he was traded to the Oakland A's. One thing is certain: Dye, who grew up in California fishing around the San Francisco Bay Area with his father, will continue to hunt, having picked up the sport late. Oh, and one more thing: Dye and the A's are in the playoffs, while the Royals had to settle for going home early this year. Unfortunately for Dye, he won't be contributing anything in the outfield or at the plate; he broke his left leg on Sunday when he fouled a ball just below the knee. ESPN Outdoors recently interviewed Dye for an "Athletes in the Outdoors" profile: ESPN Outdoors: "It sounds like you are a great example of somebody who came into the sport of hunting much later than most?"
