Nflbestbythenumbers was a system that was taken from the All American football Conference and Carmichael,Don Meredith, Rich Pettibon*(16), Steve DeBerg, dave krieg, Billy Kilmer http://www.webspawner.com/users/nflbestbythenumbers/
Extractions: This is a research effort I took on a few years ago and continue to delve back into from time-to-time. While looking through this list of players, keep in mind that this is completely an inexact science. I have found that locating uniform numbers for some of the pre-World War II players is a real challenge - particularly the numbers for players on the many now-defunct franchises of the 1920s and 30s. Note that this list also includes players from the old All American Football Conference (AAFC), the original AFL and the AFL of the 1960s. Also note that many players have a star by their name, this indicates players who wore more than one jersey number. In cases of players who did wear more than one number, I have generally tried to associate that player with the number he wore for the longest tenure or the number he wore during his greatest success. During the early days of professional football, uniform numbers meant very little to players and spectators. In fact, during the 1920s, very few teams even assigned jersey numbers. Those teams who did use numbers paid very little attention to them. Players, during that time, often switched numbers from year-to-year and even game-to-game. I have, for example, no less than five or six numbers listed for many early greats like Ernie Nevers, Ray Flaherty, Mike Michalske and Cal Hubbard - only to name a few. If you notice the obvious omission of some of these plyers, it is probably due to the fact that I haven't been able to accurately determine a number to list him with.

Desktop SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER He came from nowhere. And when Dave Krieg arrived for his first training camp at Eastern Washington University in the dreadfully hot summer of 1980, no one really cared. Dave Krieg The kid from Milton College was a seventh-string quarterback who had neither ideal size nor an NFL-caliber arm. He had been signed only as a favor to his college coach. He had never been on an airplane before flying from Wisconsin to Seattle for his first minicamp in what was expected to be a mini-career. But in this silver anniversary season for the Seahawks, who better exemplifies what this franchise has endured during the past 25 years? The Seahawks have gone from expansion rags to playoff riches, to the soiled and tattered team they became under the ownership of the Behrings, to the unlimited potential of dot.com-ness under billionaire owner Paul Allen.

Desktop SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER SAN FRANCISCO It wasn't Terrell Owens' pen that scribbled off the eighth loss of the season for the Seattle Seahawks yesterday. It was their own inability to overcome mistakes, missed opportunities and a slow start that kept the Seahawks from re-writing their fate, leaving them no chance to finish the season with a winning record. In the final minutes, they fell short once again in a 31-24 San Francisco 49ers victory before a crowd of 67,594, many of whom departed early, before the final chapter had been written. AP 49ers linebacker Julian Peterson forces Seahawks receiver Darrell Jackson to fumble deep in San Francisco territory in the third quarter. The 49ers recovered. Not until Matt Hasselbeck's pass intended for Koren Robinson was intercepted by 49ers cornerback Rashad Holman at the San Francisco 31-yard line with 1:23 left in the game did the 49ers put the game away.

Extractions: As published in print Sept. 28 Just ask Oiler backup QB Dave Krieg, who is in his 19th NFL season and has played for six different teams over the last eight years. "If you get there during minicamp, you can start to get the hang of it a little bit," Krieg said. "When I left Seattle and went to Kansas City (in 1992), I was able to be there from March until the season started, so I was able to get it down before training camp started. "But, the first year in Kansas City, it was pretty difficult running a new system. Their philosophy of offense was different from the one I had known for 12 years." Talk about teaching an old dog new tricks. According to Krieg, the fewer words a quarterback has to spew in the huddle, the better. "If you have to call the play with a lot of words, that makes it difficult," said Krieg, who admitted the Oiler play calls are a bit on the wordy side. "If you use a system that the players know by number what route to run, that makes it shorter and simpler to call in the huddle. The more words you have to say in the huddle, the less chance of getting the proper communication, I believe." The Archives
