Extractions: This cant be happening. Half a season into his professional career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Keith Smith has his shot. No more holding the clipboard, and definitely no splitting snaps. Its his show. And then, like a cruel replay of his freshman season, everything goes to hell. [ Read article Perhaps one of the most disarming athletes on campus, Jason Johnson wrapped up his senior season as the UAs single-season passing leader, with 3,327 yards. But records meant little to Johnson this season, as the team stumbled to a 4-8 record and capped off the second-straight season without a Pac-10 win at home. To make matters worse, Johnson and his teammates had to weather a storm of publicity surrounding their coach John Mackovic and his ability to retain his job despite a near-mutiny by almost half the team. [ Read article Wade named football team MVP At the football teams annual awards banquet Sunday night, Arizona senior receiver Bobby Wade, the schools all-time career receptions leader with 230 catches, was named the teams Most Valuable Player. Wade set the UA single-season mark this year with 93 receptions, breaking the mark of 88 set by Dennis Northcutt in 1999. Wade finished with 1,389 yards this year and is the UA career record holder in that category with 3,351 yards in his four-year career. [

Youth Radio Betting a $1 on a football game would be such a serious BEN Do all kids who gamblesmall amounts become big gamblers eventually? Or did jason just go too far http://www.youthradio.org/sports/020618_gambling.shtml
Extractions: Recently, the NCAA, backed by congressional allies such as Senator John McCain, proposed a ban on college sports betting. Youth Radio's Ben Simrin gives a perspective on the controversial issue. SCENE: Betting conversation between teenagers BEN: JOE: I've been a sports fan all my life. I remember in like the second grade when we were learning multiplication, everyone was good at multiples of three, you know, the easy ones, and I was best at multiples of seven because of all the football games I watched. BEN: JOE: We would gamble on like football games, just random football games. That's still what I do, basketball games for like $1 or something. The first couple times I gambled. Basically the same thing. It was pretty serious because winning a dollar back then was good. You could go buy some candy or whatever. It would rarely go over $1 because fourth or fifth grade we didn't have any money. Betting a $1 on a football game would be such a serious thing. It would be so intense to watch the game and like you would be rooting so hard for your team, for the team you wanted to win. It was just like crazy.

Extractions: The challenge for 2002 is indeed a formidable one. Donald Hill will be entering his first year at the helm as head coach for Morgan State University. Hill must replace five starters from last year's team that struggled to finish with a 2-9 record. The list of departees includes Jamar Williams David Lewis and J ustin Patton , the nuts and bolts of the MSU defensive unit. Williams led the MEAC with 8 interceptions in a single season. Lewis and Patton were among the top tacklers on the squad. The biggest loss on offense is tailback Ali Culpepper . Culpepper, a three-year starter, broke the school's all-time rushing record and completed his career as an NFL hopeful. With Culpepper leading the way, the MSU offense averaged 22.8 points and 357.9 yards per game in 2001. Despite those losses, Coach Hill is eagerly looking forward to the upcoming season. "We lost a lot of quality players," said the 12-year veteran of the coaching profession. "However we have some very talented players returning and based on what I saw this spring, I expect this to be a very good football team."Our main challenge will be to keep our young men focused on improving and playing an entire 60 minute game. Our goal is to win the conference, and I believe this will be the team to make it happen."

Phinatics.com Paris Johnson Interview of Birmingham, I had the privilege of eating lunch and talking Dolphins footballwith the in the 5th round of the '99 draft when JJ decided to gamble on Cecil http://www.phinatics.com/paris_johnson.htm
Extractions: Paris Johnson is a weakside linebacker for the Miami Dolphins. This off-season he was allocated by the Dolphins to play for the Rhein Fire of the NFL Europe league. Paris was having a good season until he got injured (partial lateral meniscus tear) during a game on May 12. A few days after his surgery, conducted by Dr. Larry LeMack of the Alabama Sports Medicine Clinic of Birmingham, I had the privilege of eating lunch and talking Dolphins football with the 25 year old Paris. Paris expects to be back in playing condition in 3-4 weeks. If the Rhein Fire make it to the World Bowl, he expects to be able to play. Paris says he will play in pre-season Dolphin games, and wants to be 230lbs. by camp. He's going to focus on making Special Teams at a minimum. Paris played safety for Miami of Ohio. He was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the '99 draft. After he was released by the Cards, Miami gave him a call and switched his position to LB and gave him the utility number of 49. This wasn't the first call that Paris had taken from Miami. He was on the phone with the Dolphins in the 5th round of the '99 draft when JJ decided to gamble on Cecil Collins instead of taking Paris. phinatics.com: How do you feel about your chances of staying on the roster this season?
