Extractions: When he wasn't throwing to Largent, Zorn looked for tight end Ron Howard, the ex-Seattle U. basketball player, most often. The ex-Cowboy caught 37 passes in his first role as a starting tight end. The other wide receiver, Sam McCullum, caught 32 balls. He and Largent caught four touchdown passes. The experienced subs are tight end John McMakin and wide receiver Steve Raible. Source: Inside the Seahawks , Vol. 1, No. 14, November 7, 1986-November 13, 1986 By Bob Pruitt Atlanta scored first, an 18-yard field goal, after Seattle quarterback Jim Zorn fumbled on the Seahawk 9 yard line. Then Seattle made its one "unassisted" scoring drive on the following kick-off. Sherman Smith capped the 80 yard drive by hauling in a 21 yard TD strike from Zorn. Zorn passed for another touchdown to John McMakin only seconds later, after John Leypoldt's kick-off was fumbled by Rick Byas on the Falcon 26. The third quarter began with a Seahawk drive being stalled near mid-field. Rick Engles punted the ball to the Falcon 6, where Rolland Lawrence took it in and was forced to run for his life by the exceptional Seahawk coverage. With Don Dufek immediately in his face, he retreated laterally back near the end zone where he was caught by a pursuing Dave Brown, who nailed him for the safety.

Extractions: Advocate Sports Writer At the end of the fourth overtime in the District 27-3A boys basketball game at Cuero on Tuesday night, Hallettsville coach Donald Shimek looked at opposing Cuero coach John Fuqua and pulled a quarter out of his pocket. "I got heads," Fuqua laughed as they headed to the fifth - fifth overtime that is. The Brahmas (17-10, 5-1) and Gobblers (10-11, 2-4) knotted at 75, 86, 92, 99 and 106 before the outcome of the game was decided by a free throw. Down by two, Hallettsville's Chad Hawkins sunk two free throws to tie the game with 22 seconds left. Cuero then missed a go-ahead shot and fouled forward Kevin Kanak. Since both teams were in the double-bonus, Kanak made only his last free throw with 5.1 seconds remaining. Cuero's Brandon Mays, the Gobblers' only starter that did not foul out, got off a shot. Suprisingly, Ahmad Rasheed, Hallettsville's only remaining eligible starter, fouled Mays. But Mays, who played all nine quarters, missed both free throws to end the historic game.

Before she stepped through the door, she turned around one last time and gazed at the scenery below. Grabbing her disposable camera, she took one final photo. Just minutes earlier, Gasche and two other Eagle seniors Allison Samuels and Erin Pargman had capped their prep careers Saturday with a 63-54 overtime victory over St. John (23-3). The win secured third place in the Class 2A state tournament and gave Olpe (25-1) its best finish since claiming the consolation prize in 1999-2000. "Those third-place games are difficult just for that reason, because the kids come into this tournament with very high expectations," Olpe coach Jesse Nelson said. "So you get deflated the night before and 10 hours later you step on your court and it becomes a very emotional game. The seniors, as we pulled up to K-State, it finally hit them that this was it." With 5.4 seconds remaining in the OT and the game finally in hand, Olpe coach Jesse Nelson sent three girls to the scorer's table.
