In the years 1960-1969 Barbara Hepworth produced 227 works of sculpture, almost as many as in the preceding 35 years sine her career began. Not only was this a prolific decate, but, as Alan Bowness suggest, it was a time when the range and scale of the artist's sculpture broadened considerbably. In this volume, all the pieces from the period are fully documented and virtually all of them are reproduced, the majority in 247 black-and-white illustrations, and 16 are in full color.In addition to the catalogue section, this volume includes a biographical summary a list of exhibitions, a list of works in museums and public collections, a selected bibiliography, and an index of sculptures. It opens with a printed printed version of a series of conversations between Hepworth and Bowness that explores, among other things, the artist's attitude to scale, materials, patina, color in sculpture, and the relationships of sculpture and landscape and sculpture and architecture. ...
