Extractions: PWCS The Legacy Continues From its founding in 1900, PWCS has had an enviable legacy of supporting and showcasing famous master artists. Among the masters who have been members or exhibitors are Andrew Wyeth, N. C. Wyeth, Cecilia Beaux, Pablo Picasso, Maxfield Parrish, George Bellows, W. Emerton Heitland, Thornton Oakley, Violet Oakley, and John Singer Sargent, a virtual "Who's Who?" of American art. Today's exhibitions feature stunning contemporary talent. Over the years, PWCC has presented to the Philadelphia Museum of Art a distinguished permanent collection of 159 fine art paintings from the PWCS exhibitions. Although our name has been revered by artists for almost a century, our organization is in the process of initiating changes to reflect our national growth and image. Representation in our exhibitions is international; mediums accepted include not only watercolor, but original prints, acrylics, and pastels as well. Membership is granted after an artist has been accepted in two juried exhibitions, to assure that all members are highly professional. Jurors have included Stephen Doherty, Serge Hollerbach, Irwin Greenberg, and the undersigned Jeanne Dobie and Frank Webb. Because of our close proximity to New York, many of our members are also signature members of the American Watercolor Society, and a growing percentage are attaining National Watercolor Society status.
